Sara Pathirana
Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC), in association with the Distance
Learning Centre Ltd and the Information Security Professional Associates
(iSPA), organized a seminar on ‘Web Application Security-Is it a moving
target?’ on Thursday, March 21, 2013 in Colombo. The seminar was
conducted by the Resource Person Sujit Christy, Director, Layers-7
Seguro Consultoria Private Limited, who is also a regular speaker in
security conferences and seminars.
With the technological and social changes that businesses and
organizations go through, these entities own their own websites to make
its presence known to the world and carry out business transactions or
critical functions. As every organization goes online, many problems can
arise which are directly related to the security of web applications.
The seminar was a one day action packed course which covered the common
vulnerabilities that are influenced by hackers, principles of securing
Web applications and general defence techniques to protect against
future attacks. The seminar aimed to help understand the mechanics of
the components necessary for effective Web application security which
will then enable users to confidently and properly defend their
organisation’s assets.
The seminar focused on providing a risk and performance based
approach to information security while providing recognizable value and
a positive return on investment. To do so effectively, security should
represent a multi-disciplined approach to the protection of assets for
both information and personnel. This approach then applies that support
across every functional department and location within a corporation or
business entity.
Christy is also a visiting lecturer at the Department of Criminology,
University of Madras, a founding member and charter secretary of the
