The Government has taken action to implement the recommendations made
by the WHO to control the kidney disease rapidly spreading in certain
provinces in Sri Lanka, especially in the North Central Province, Health
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.
Addressing the World Water Day celebrations at the BMICH and Colombo,
Minister Sirisena said that clean drinking water was one of the
essentials for a healthy life. There are various opinions, accusations,
etc on the kidney disease spread in certain parts of the country. But
the Government had made arrangements to implement the WHO
recommendations.
Sirisena pointed out that water should be protected and preserved
just as blood because water was important as blood. But unfortunately
the people have not understood this yet. We need to preserve water
required for an area ten times bigger than our country.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa always advised the ministers to ensure
that the people get clean drinking water and to make arrangements to
preserve country's precious water resources, Minister Sirisena added. |
