“Demonstrations are not in keeping with the teachings of Islam and we
request all Muslims to refrain from attending protests and
demonstrations organized by many groups, said Presidential Advisor and
Theologist Alhaj-A.B.M. Kaleel Moulavi.
Kaleel Moulavi said according to our religion, we should find
solutions through peaceful negotiations and not by participating in
demonstrations.
He condemned the demonstration planned for today by a group of
Muslims. “We stand for the rights of the Muslims and will never allow
these rights to be usurped by extremists.
Sri Lanka is blessed with a strong and far sighted leader. We have
utmost faith in President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Defence Secretary
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who are always willing to listen to the plight of
Muslims,” he said. “I request the Muslim community not to engage in
activities which are undemocratic and not in keeping with the tenets of
Islam. Muslims who have lived for centuries in peace and unity with the
Sinhalese and other communities are proud to call Sri Lanka their home,”
he added.
“We, as Muslim religious leaders have observed the recent
developments in Sri Lanka against the Muslims by a a bunch of extremists
and have abundantly understood that there are certain organized groups
who want to damage the ethnic harmony and peaceful coexistence between
the various communities in the country,” he reiterated. “We will never
let these sinister agendas materialize,” he said. |
