Owner, driver die as bus goes down precipice

Owner and driver of a private bus died when the bus went down a precipice at Radella in Nanu Oya.

They have been identified as S Sundaresan and Samarawickrama.

Another person, the brother of the private bus owner was admitted to the Nuwara Eliya General Hospital with serious injuries.

The bus was returning from Sri Pada. Nanu Oya Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, there were agitation and protests by thousands of estate workers in Radella short cut and Dessford, Maha Eliya, Casay, Somerest areas, against the buses not plying on the long route as it was done earlier and the public and specially the schoolchildren were inconvenienced.

Representations made by the public to Trade Union and political leaders have gone unattended, they say.

Most of the heavy vehicles including the buses take the short cut of Radella causing heavy damages to the roadway, the Radella short cut.
