Death of ex-ANCL Chairman
Dr Janadasa Peiris, a former Chairman of the Associated Newspapers of
Ceylon Ltd and former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation
passed way yesterday. He was 71.
Peiris, husband of Malini Peiris, former Additional Secretary to the
Defence Ministry and father of Chamara Peiris, was a veteran media
personality and commentator on foreign affairs.
He was the Media and Information Ministry Secretary and also advisor
to former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. A National List
MP in 2004, he was the son of the late Henry Peiris of Panadura, a
pioneer member of the Socialist movement in the country and an MP of the
first Parliament of independent Sri Lanka.
He had his education at Sri Thakshila Vidyalaya, Sarikkamulla and
Wales Kumara Vidyalaya, Moratuwa
His remains are lying at 22/ A, Mallika Lane, Wellawatte, Colombo 6.
Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
