The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption
has noticed former Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake to appear
before the Commission on March 18 regarding a complaint made against
alleged amassing of wealth by her through unfair and illegal means,
while she was a member of the public service.
The Commission has noticed Dr. Bandaranayake to appear on this date
for purposes of obtaining a statement from her regarding the allegation.
The complaint alleges that she possessed enormous wealth beyond the
means of what an ordinary public servant earned through various corrupt
means.
Officers of the Commission have already investigated into this
complaint and they hoped to obtain a statement from her regarding the
findings made during the investigation.
Asked for details regarding allegations made against Dr Bandaranayake
in the complaint, Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and
Corruption Chairman retired Supreme Court Jusitce Jagath Balapatabendi
said they are strictly confidential and could not to be released to the
media.
