Lahiru Sanjaya a fine all-rounder

Right hand batsman, right arm leg spinner and a fifth year coloursman and captain of St. Johns College, Panadura Lahiru Sanjaya is a fine all round cricketer.

He commenced his cricket career at the age of eleven years and represented his Alma-Mater for under 13 cricket team for two years and his first coach being G. Ranasinghe. In the under 15 team he was the vice captain in his second year and his coach was Chaminda Kumara There his coach was Dilip Fernando and G. Ranasinghe had another stint as the coach. The Present coach is Yshan Gunarathne.

In the under 17 age group in his second year he led the side and went on to captain the under 17 provincial team.

He was selected for the first eleven team while playing for the under 15 team.

Johnians are playing seventeen matches including the big match against Royal College, Panadura. So far they have played thirteen matches and he has scored 548 runs and claimed 83 wickets at an average of 10.95.

He had four fifties with highest score being 94 against Carey College, Colombo. In bowling he had two ten wickets hauls against Moratu Vidyalya 10 for 90 and Verius Asoka Vidyalya 12 for 119. He had five five wicket hands and best bowling analysis is 6 for 32 versus Moratu Vidyalya and best all round performance against Carey College with 94 and 8 for 176. He got a pair of specs against Moratu Vidyalya.

He played for the last two years for Panadura Sports Club in the under 23 cricket tournament organized by Sri Lanka Cricket. He told the Daily News sports that he is getting all the support from his parents and the encouragement from the principal M.N.H.T.P. De Silva his class teacher Mrs. K.K.D.P. Priyangani and the Master in change of cricket K. Siripala.
