Suranga and Nissanka shine in the final
Sterling all round performances by Suranga Kahingala (60 runs and 04
for 22) and Captain, Nissanka Silva (55 not out and 3 for 47 helped
Aluthgama Cricket Club to demolish Sri Lanka Army SC, by 68 runs in the
Final of the Inaugural Aluthgama CC, G. Goldin de Silva Memorial
challenge Trophy, 20+20 Cricket Tournament, concluded at Aluthgama
Public Esplanade recently.
16 teams in 04 groups participated in the tournament and at the
completion of the round – robin stage, the first 02 teams of each group
advanced to the Knock Out stage.
In the Quarter finals, Aluthgama CC beat Elpitiya CC, by 61 runs &
Sri Lanka Army, Panagoda beat Panadura Sahasra CC by 02 wickets. In the
semi-finals Aluthgama CC beat Wadduwa United by 23 runs, while SL Army,
Panagoda beat SL Army Cavelry CC by 07 runs.
In the Final, Aluthgama CC sent into bat , put up a formidable 242
for 05 in 20 ovrs, riding on 03 half centuries by Suranga Kahingala
(60), M.M.M. Cooray (57) and Nissanka Silva (55 not out).
Kahingala ( 4 for 22) and Silva (3 for 47) continued to shine, as
they combined effectively to get the soldiers all for 174 in 17.4 overs.
Suranga Kahingala was adjudged as the man-of-the Tournament &
Nissanka Silva was picked as the Man of the Final.
Dinesh Priyankara , Minister Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha sponsored the
trophy and the cash prize of Rs.100,000/- awarded to the winning team.
The runners – up cash prize Rs. 50,000/- was sponsored by Ravi Nalin
Kumara, Minister, Beruwala Pradesiya Sabha.
The Hon. Minister of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Rajitha Senaratne,
on the invitation of Dinesh Priyankara, graced the post match awards
presentation as the Chief Guest.
