The CTC tea factory at Kalubowitiyana highland colonization scheme in
Matara District managed by the Kalubowitiyana Tea Factory under the
administration of the Plantation Industries Ministry has shown a vast
progress, with its production on a satisfactory level. During last year,
the factory had obtained a highest price of Rs 640 per kilogram for the
main grade hygenic CTC tea at the Colombo tea auction.
As a result of this for the first time the factory had paid a record
price of Rs 78.40 per kilogram for green leaf supplied by the tea
smallholders, the chairman of the company Donald Abeysundara said.
Meanwhile, the factory has launched a social and welfare programme
for smallholders, school children, Dhamma schools and health clinics and
also to distributed coconut seedlings to improve home gardening in the
area. |
