Wadduwa would invest over Rs 700 million to build a high end hotel in
Sigiriya. This would be branded as Water Garden Sigiriya.
Managing Director, Union Resorts, Ajith Wijesekera told Daily News
Business that the hotel would consist of 30 chalets with each having a
private garden, plunge pool, in a very independent atmosphere. Rooms
would be built on stilts surrounding paddy and water and the property
would over look Sigiriya rock and Pidurangala.
He said that they hope the property would be ready by 2015 winter and
were targeting up end tourists.
The hotel would also have a separate swimming pool bar and many other
modern amenities. “We have also decided to open a Balinese staffed Spa.”
He said that they had borrowed 40% from banks and were looking at a
return on investment in around five years. “We will start marketing the
property at the next winter,” he said. One of the marketing ploys would
be to offer both Water Garden Sigiriya and Blue Water to tourists thus
giving them a mix of culture and adventure on the beach.
The Blue Water is investing Rs 450 million to build a second hotel
adjoining the main property. The new property would be an all suite, 40
room property. Designed by the iconic Geoffrey Bawa, The Blue Water
Hotel was opened in 1997. |
