British Standards Institution ties up with SBC Group of Companies

The British Standards Institution (BSI), which is the National
Standards Body in the UK, has tied up with SBC Group of Companies, Sri
Lanka by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Colombo
yesterday.

Managing Director of BSI, Venkataram Arabolu was in the country for
the event. SBC Group of Companies is one of the leading integrated
services providers in Sri Lanka in the field of testing, certification
and inspection. SBC is an acknowledged brand leader in the country's
inspection, metrology and analysis and certification sectors.
"With this partnership, we can ensure the market receives credible
certifications," Chairman/Managing Director, SBC Group of Companies,
Sudath Wijesinghe said. SBC has dealt with a wide variety of clients in
the market, ranging from oil majors, conglomerates to government
corporations and local enterprises in the fields of petroleum, agri-imports
and oil bunkering, since the company commenced in 2004.
BSI evaluated SBC Group and resulted in the issuing of the agreement.
"We were the closest nominee to represent BSI UK for signing the MoU
with SBC. BSI, which is a Royal Charter Company, is the world's largest
and oldest standards body which would be the first initiative of its
kind to take place in Sri Lanka. At a time of economical improvement
here, it will be a beneficial opportunity for Sri Lanka to achieve
better standards, be competitive and achieve world-class standing,"
