Wild elephants cause dispensary closure

The Opalgala government central dispensary in Naula is not
functioning due to the threat of wild elephants.
They cause great difficulties to the public residing around Opalgala.
Wild elephants roam the dispensary area constantly and the staff fear
to attend for duties.
The people in the area who are inconvenienced have appealed to the
government to clear the area as early as possible to ensure
uninterrupted functioning of the dispensary.
Foundation stone layed to renovate Devalaya

Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de
Silva, Buddhist Affairs Commissioner General Chandrasoma Gamage,
Basnayaka Nilame B/Kataragama Devalaya, Ranjith Udaya Kumara and
Basnayaka Nilame of Paththini Devalaya, Badulla, P Wijedasa jointly laid
the foundation stone to renovate the entrance way of B/Kataragama
Devalaya on March 3 at the auspicious time.
The estimated cost of this project is Rs 5.7 million. B/Kataragama
Devalaya seeks the financial and material assistance from the devotees
to carry out the project.
Badulla Mayor, U N Gunasekara, B/Divisional Secretary Jopias Mahinda,
B/MC Community Co-ordination Officer N Fernando, Uva PC Members Ajith
Liyanage and N Ratnayaka also participated on this occasion.
Threshing wheel claims life

A 15-year-old boy assisting his father in threshing the harvest of a
paddy field in Mukkarawewa, died after being caught in the thresher
wheel on Sunday.
The boy was rushed to the Anuradhapura Hospital where he succumbed to
his injuries.
The deceased was identified as Mohmammed Rufkim, a grade 9 student of
Horowpothana Muslim Maha Vidyalaya.
