Innings win for Vidyartha against Horana Taxila

Vidyartha College, Kandy enjoying one of their best season registered
their fourth outright win by defeating Taxila Vidyalaya, Horana by an
innings and 27 runs in their schools under 19 cricket tournament match
concluded at Police Grounds, Kandy yesterday. The Vidyarthians won
before the lunch break on the second day.
A noteworthy factor is that the Vidyarthians scored a modest 143 all
out but this total turned out to be good enough to secure an innings win
with their bowlers sticking to their task in a big way, though the
wickets were distributed among them spinner Chanaka Ratnayake was the
pick among them taking 4 for 19 and 3 for 20.
Taxila Vidyalaya resuming yesterday morning had the uphill task of
saving the match.
They had to make 91 with 9 wickets in hand with the whole day in
front and with no signs of rain.
Within the first hour of play the writing appeared on the wall when
they lost their first 5 wickets for 25 and it became 48 for 7.
The last three wickets fell with the total at 62.
Taxila Vidyalaya 54 all out and 62 all out in 32.2 overs (Vinod
Kavinda 11, Kavindu Tharanga 23, Chanaka Ratnayake 3 for 20, Dasun
Nawaratne 2 for 15, Isuru Weerasinghe 3 for 22, Muditha Elpitiya 2 for
2).
