Trinity in command over Cambrians

Trinity College, Kandy gained a 45-run first innings lead at the end of the first day of their schools under 19 cricket tournament match against Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa which began at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday. The match will be continued today at 10 am.

This lead could turn out to be vital in this low scoring match where the bowlers ruled. The Cambrians have already lost a wicket for four runs and they have to score a further 41 runs to wipe out the lead of their opponents.

Only half century of the match came off the bat of Trinitian Rajitha Jayatunga who made 62 with 8 fours and 2 sixes and held the batting together when the front liners failed to score.

He has now passed the 700 run mark and the first batsman from the hill capital to do so.

Prince of Wales College 106 all out in 43 overs (Kusal Mendis 16, Tilan Nimesh 23, Sanuka Dulaj 16, Amrith Srimahan 2 for 30, Bhaghya Pallihawadana 2 for 28, Ravin Sayers 3 for 30) and 4 for 1 in 5 overs.

Trinity College 151 all out in 42 overs (Rajitha Jayatunga 62, Lakshitha Dassanayake 28, Sashika Pushpakumara 2 for 14, Tilan Nimesh 2 for 45, Ravindu Sashantha 3 for 28).
