Batti records 49 dengue cases

The Batticaloa Municipal Council, Security Forces personnel, the
Health Department and the Rural Development Society launched an
anti-dengue campaign. Nearly 810 dwellings were inspected and cases
filed against 29 persons for having dengue breeding grounds.
A meeting for PHIs, Health Department officials, security officers
and Municipal Council labourers was held under the chairmanship of
Deputy Mayor A Georgepillai last week.
The Deputy Mayor emphasised the need to keep Batticaloa clean and
tidy with a large number of local and foreign tourists visiting the
district.
He said measures will be taken to clean all drains blocked following
the recent rains and urged the public to keep their homes and
surroundings clean.
The public were made aware on cleaning dengue breeding grounds
through the public address system and leaflets.
Forty nine dengue victims have been identified in Batticaloa from
January up to date, sources said.
The public were told not to dump garbage on the road and to keep the
environment and drains clean.
