Three arrested with conch shells, sea cucumbers

The Navy arrested three persons along with conch shells, live sea cucumbers and a haul of oyster fish at Kondachchikua road block.

According to Navy sources, navy personnel attached to the SLNS Theraputta of the North-Western Naval Command arrested three persons on information received and seized 3,187 conch shells, 500 live sea cucumbers and 16 kilos of oyster fish from their position.

The Navy arrested these persons and the other items while they were been transported from Karadakkule.

The arrested persons and the seized items were handed over to Silawathurai Police for further investigations.

Meanwhile, naval personnel attached to the Uchchamunai Naval Deployment of the North-Western Naval Command have recovered a haul of illegal fishing nets in the Rodhapadu area on Saturday.

The raid was conducted on information received and the items recovered included a Laila fishing net (polythene) and four Surukku nets.

The seized items were handed over to Assistant Fisheries Director in Puttalam for further action.
