Man arrested with arms and ammo
Embilipitiya Police on Sunday evening arrested a suspect with a 16
bore shot gun, a foreign made hand grenade, 100 grams of C4 explosives,
a detonator code wire, a bomb made in a white board marker pen and an
illumination para in his possession at Walalgoda.
He was turned over to Panamura Police for legal action.
Meanwhile, Badulla Police on the same day arrested a suspect with a
hand grenade and 2.950 of heroin in his possession while travelling in a
lorry at Yakarawa in Badulla.
Another suspect was arrested with a 9 mm pistol and one kilogram of
cannabis in his possession while travelling on a motorbike in
Bulathsinhala by Police.
The Kalutara division crime investigation branch is investing.
Treasure hunters caught red handed
The STF and the Monaragala Special Artifacts Protection Unit arrested
eight suspects while digging an archaeologically significant land on
Kodayaya mountains, Newgala in Siyambalanduwa. Police seized implements
used for digging. The suspects were remanded until March 1 on being
produced before the Monaragala Magistrate Courts.
In Hambegamuwa, STF officers attached to Hambantota and Ampara
carried a joint raid in the Udawalawa reserve and detected two acres of
cannabis chenas. Police seized 31 kilograms of dried cannabis and three
kilograms of cannabis seeds. Hambegamuwa Police are investigating.
Twenty seven hospitalized after bus collision
Twenty seven persons, including two drivers were hospitalized after
two private buses collided head on, at Morathota junction on the Colombo
-Badulla main road on Sunday. The injured, 13 men and 14 women were
admitted to Balangoda, Pelmadulla, kahawatte and Ratnapura hospitals.
Kahawatte Police are investigating.
