Jobs galore in Killi'

A multinational company is to be opened in Kilinochchi in April
providing 1,500 employment opportunities to youths in the district,
Northern Governor Major General G A Chandrasiri said.
He said this was a result of the government's programme to empower
the people in the North to enable them to enjoy the peace dividend
following the elimination of terrorism. The Major General said the
government's plan for the Northern Province is to assist the people to
empower themselves through public-private partnership since humanitarian
assistance given to them is nearing completion.
He said the humanitarian assistance which includes provision of raw
material to construct houses, distribution of household utensils and
assistance to commence earning a livelihood is actively carried out only
in the Pudumathalan area and will be completed within two months.
Chandrasiri said in the next step to assist people to empower
themselves, the government under the direction of President Mahinda
Rajapaksa, initiated a number of programmes, one of these being the
setting up of massive industries creating hundreds of thousands of
employment avenues to empower the people.
He said a top company has set up one of its factories in Aravial,
Kilinochchi in a 25 acre land which will commence operations in April
while another company is planning to be set up in another 25 acre plot.
However the factory that is to be opened in April provides more than
1,500 direct employment opportunities to youths in Kilinochchi.
The Major General said the Northern Province under his direction has
set up a training centre for the company to train its recruits. He said
about 200 rehabilitated ex-LTTE combatants, graduates, under graduates
and educated youths in Kilinochchi are being trained at the training
centre.
All recruits will be trained before the commencement of operations,
the Governor said.
He said already three such factories have been set up in Vavunia by
three companies and another two in Mannar districts and have provided
tens of thousands of jobs to Northern youths. |
