Prelate's murder: four suspects identified

Four suspects arrested in connection with the murder of the Chief Incumbent of Sunandopanandaramaya, Egoday Uyana, Moratuwa were identified by four eye witnesses including two monks.

The identification parade was held at the Moratuwa Magistrate's Court yesterday in the presence of Additional Magistrate Poornima Paranagamage.

The Moratuwa Urban Council Deputy Mayor arrested in this connection, was reremanded until February 28 to be produced before an identification parade.

Ven Metigahatenne Wimalawansa Thero was hacked to death at the temple premises recently.

Two suspects' bodies with gun injuries were found at Bandaragama the following day. Police arrested 10 suspects in connection with the murder.


Couple injured in accident

A man and a woman were critically injured when the car they were travelling hit a Colombo bound Matara train at an unprotected railway crossing in Ma Galla around 10 am yesterday.

The woman aged 37 and the man aged 27 were rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital.

Meanwhile, a man died after being hit by a train plying from Chilaw to Colombo in Nurdin Watte near the 50th mile post the same day.
