Speedy information on development needed

Journalists should endeavour to speedily disseminate correct
information on developments and happenings in Sri Lanka to the outside
world. Sri Lanka is facing allegations from various international
quarters today, because there is a laxity in providing such correct
information said the Human Rights Commissioner Dr. Pratibha Mahanama.
He was addressing a two day awareness programme on the protection and
promotion of Human Rights attended by journalists of the NCP at the
Tourist Board Hotel in Anuradhapura recently. Mahanamahewa said Sri
Lanka was facing various allegations as a country because it refused to
work according to international agendas.
Although certain international forces accused Sri Lanka about human
rights violations they conveniently ignored blatant human rights
violations committed in Libya, Iraq and other countries. He said
developments in outstation areas filter to the outside world in a flash
through the internet. As such provincial journalists too had a big role
to play in disseminating the developments in their areas to the outside
world. |
