SCM holds convocation
Institute of Supply and Materials Management, which is the National
Institute for Supply Chain Management (SCM) conducted its 21st
Convocation recently, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International
Conference Hall (BMICH).

The highest qualification that could be obtained in Sri Lanka in the
field of Supply Chain Management, Diploma in Purchasing and Materials
Management (DPMM) was awarded to 39 students. After successful
completion of the Research Paper eight DPMM Diploma, students were
awarded with Graduate Diploma in Supply Chain Management (GDPSCM).
"I want to highlight the importance of professionalism and I make a
request from the graduates to follow the right procedures, without
hesitating to choose between what is wrong and what is right. Unlike the
old days the focus on SCM is the key to compete in the market," Dr.
Ranjith Cabral said.
President, ISMM, Danesha Perera, who addressed the gathering, stated
at the meeting the importance of the portfolio held by the Chief Guest.
He elaborated like many economic activities, the transport sector is an
important component of the economy impacting on development and the
welfare of populations.
"When transport systems are efficient, they provide economic and
social opportunities and benefits that result in positive multipliers
effects such as better accessibility to markets, employment and
additional investments. When transport systems are deficient in terms of
capacity or reliability, they can have an economic cost such as reduced
or missed opportunities," Perera stated. He also explained the
advantages of being a good leader.

Welgama and Guest of Honour, Dr. Ranjith Cabral, Management Consultant
and Director, Merchant Bank, Industrial Development Board and Ceylon
Petroleum Corporation. |
