Dhammika betters her three national records

Dhammika Harischandra of Sri Lanka Air Force turned out to be the Queen of lifters when she smashed three existing weightlifting national records for women at the annual Senior Women’s Weightlifting National organized by the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation and worked off at Royal College, Polonnaruwa this week.

Competing in 76 kilogramme body weight category the heavily built Dhammika Harischandra snatched 76 kilogrammes and later clean and jerked 91 kilogrammes to Aggregate 167. All three marks were National Records.

The previous records of snatch 73 kilogramme and clean and jerk 90 kilogrammes and total 163 registered at the Defence Services Weightlifting Championship last year too were held by her.

Dhammika Harischandra hails from Menikhinna and trains at Kandy YMCA under the guidance of former national weightlifting coaches Athula Wijewickrama and S A Wijewickrama and represented the Kandy YMCA before joining the Sri Lanka Air Force which helped her to enhance her weightlifting career.
