The new Selection Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket headed by former Sri
Lanka captain Sanath Jaysuriya will announce the squad to face
Bangladesh in the Two Test series to be played next month to the media
at the SLC Headquarters at 4.30 pm today. A media release from SLC Media
Manager Rajith Fernando states that the new selection committee will
announce the squad to meet Bangladesh in the Two Test series, but has
not mentioned whether the new captain too will be announced.
The selectors will be the cynosure of all eyes and the cricket loving
public waits with bated breath, keen to know who the new captain of Sri
Lanka cricket will be.
Indications are that all rounder Angelo Mathews will get the nod. But
selectors in sport are known to act in mysterious ways, and it would not
come as a surprise if some other player is put in the hot seat.
The new set of selectors have made it known that they will pick the
best, on merit, fitness and form. All being cricketers, the selectors can
be relied on to pick the best and give the game a new beginning in the
new year and take the game forward.
If the selectors gone on the form of the domestic cricket scene, then
they will find a crop of promising youngsters pushing for slots in the
national squad which is every cricketer’s ambition.
