Policeman, suspect hospitalised after clash

A suspect who tried to snatch the firearm off a police constable was shot and hospitalised while the constable assaulted by the suspect was also admitted to hospital in Nochchiyagama on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when a team of police officers on mobile duty on Tuesday night received information about two suspects about to assault a women and damage her property following a personal dispute.

When the police team arrived at the scene , two suspects attacked the policeman with a mammoty and a club and attempted to grab his weapon before being shot. Nochchiyagama Police commenced a search operation to arrest the other suspect who fled the scene.
