Bus collision injures 28
Two CTB buses collided head on yesterday at Thithawemankanda,
Wewaladeniya injuring 28 passengers on board the two buses. The injured
were admitted at Warakapola and Wathupitiwala hospitals.
Two long distance buses, Kandy-Panduara and Colombo-Galenbindunuwewa
were involved in the accident.
No serious casualties were reported.
Double-decker for Ampara SLTB depot

A double-decker bus was added to the fleet of the Ampara depot of the
Sri Lanka Transport Board for the first time. Sports Minister
Mahindananda Alutgamage and Senior Minister P. Dayaratna also attended
at the launching ceremony.
Helping hand for Grade V Scholars

One Hundred students who passed the Grade Five Scholarship
examination last year will receive Sinhala-English dictionaries at a
ceremony to be held at the Sri Pushparamaya temple in Hasalaka, Minipe
tomorrow at 3: 30 pm. The ceremony has been organized to mark 25 years
of UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka's political career.
New bridge in Galbokka

A new bridge was built at Galbokka, in the Madulla Divisional
Secretariat area.
The Uva Provincial Road Development Ministry under the guidance of
Chief Minister Shaseendra Rajapaksa implemented the project at a cost of
Rs. 2 million. Three hundred families in Dambagalla and Galbokka Grama
Niladari Divisions benefit, Madulla Divisional Secretary R.M. Rasika
Thilakarathna told the Daily News.
Nabbed with heroin

Badulla Police arrested a man, 25, with heroin. Police detected 100
grams of heroin carried by a man during a search operation in Uduvara,
Haaliela, Badulla. He was loitering in Uduvara.
Green house farming

Green house farming will be popularized among the people of the Uva
Paranagama electorate. Fifty five families received funds to be utilized
in building green houses. The Samurdhi Livelyhood Development Programme
located Rs.8,800,000 for the project.
Assistance for school children

Polonnaruwa district Parliamentarian Roshan Ranasingha funds
Rs.30,000,000 to provide learning aids for schoolchildren in the
district.
Exercise books, pens, pencils and other stationery items will be
distributed among 86,000 children.
Relief for flood-hit

Two hundred flood affected families in the Dimbulagala area of the
Mahaweli B Zone received relief from a community organization in Dompe.
The Siyane Tharuna Sanvidhaanaya of Krindivela, Dompe, distributed dry
rations among the beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Red Cross
provided funds for a group of flood affected families of the Elahera
area, in the Mahaweli Zone G. Each family received Rs.10,000.
Three held with ivory

Three men carrying ivory wrapped with a national flag were arrested
by Walimada Police at Siripura, Nugathalaava, Walimada. Police detected
two pieces of ivory, each was 31cm long. Police believe that the ivories
had been removed from a young elephant in a forest off Bibile.
