A prize awarding ceremony was held on Tuesday, at the Bandaranaike
Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), for winners of the
Sanwathsara Wasana lottery that was introduced in January 19, in
celebration of Development Lottery Board's (DLB) 30th anniversary.
The total value of the prizes amounted to more than Rs. 57 million
and this was reported as the lottery which had earned the highest income
for the DLB in Sri Lanka's lottery history.
"This year, we are planning to remit Rs. two billion to the
President's fund. When comparing last year's fund and the year before
that, we have accumulated nearly Rs. 1.65 billion in 2012 and Rs. 1.37
billion in 2011," Anura Jayarathne, Deputy General Manager (Marketing),
DLB, stated.
The DLB Trust 1983 had been integrated to raise funds for the
Mahapola Higher Educational Trust Fund and financially help needy
university student's to continue their education in their respective
fields. The contribution from the President's Fund towards various
social welfare activities that includes aid for health, education,
recreation, religious and cultural areas, makes a huge difference.
Prizes were awarded by Chief Guest Deputy Minister of Finance and
Planning, Dr. Sarath Amunugama.
