Captain’s innings by Dinuk despite Maleen’s superb bowling

Trinity College recovered after a shock start on the opening day of
their inter-school cricket match against Isipatana College which began
at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy yesterday.
Trinity College batting first had a shock which they had not
experienced for many seasons.
Isipatana's right arm medium pacer Maleen Dias extracting a lot of
life took three wickets in the opening over and the scoreboard read 3
for 3.
Opener Lakshitha Dassanayake held the fort at one end while wickets
fell from the other.
A fifth wicket stand of 68 between Lakshitha Dissanayake and skipper
Dinuk Wickramanayake some what repaired the damage and the score was 146
for 7 before rained. The game was finally called off at 5.26 pm.
It was a masterly knock of 77 with aid of 8 fours by Lakshitha
Dassanayake. If not for this knock Trinity College could have run into
serious problems. Skipper Dinuk Wickramanayake who came at No 7 batted
with responsibility to remains unbeaten on 49 not out with 4 fours.
He has now scored 570 runs and could well reach his 600 runs for the
season with him is Charitha Sudaraka. Maleen Dias bowled with fire to
capture 5 for 45 and his opening over is unforgettable.

Dinuk Wickramanayake 49 not out, Maleen Dias 5 for 45).
