Monk hospitalized after assault

Maharagama Police yesterday arrested two suspects who allegedly assaulted a Buddhist monk at the Dharmasri Vardhanaramaya temple, Pamunuwa in Maharagama yesterday.

Ven Dheerawansha Thera of Kolongolla who was injured in the attack was admitted to Sri Jayawardanapura hospital.

The monk was assaulted by four persons when he went into the shrine room of the temple around 12.15 am after hearing a noise indicating a breaking into the shrine room. Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had arrived to break open the till in the shrine room. Maharagama Police have launched a hunt for the other suspects.
