ACBC aid for returnees
Chaminda Perera
The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress (ACBC) provided assistance to
families who returned to Kelebowewa village situated 42 kilometres away
from Vavuniya town under the direction of its President Jagath
Sumathipala.
Hundreds of people living in Kelebowewa left the village in fear of
terrorist attacks. These villagers returned to their villages with the
end of terrorism. Over 300 families have already returned to their
houses and started their livelihood activities again.
The 56th Division of the Sri Lanka Army coordinated this project. The
ACBC provided them a gift pack containing school bags, bottles,
stationery, water bottles, dry rations, infant milk power and many other
utensils needed for day to day use under its Buddhist revival programme.
Thousands of people living in remote villages in the North and East
have received assistance under this programme. North Central Province
Chief Sanghanayake Thera Ven Atambagaskada Kalyanathissa Thera, Vanni
Commander M. H. S. B. Perera, Brigadier Raj Ranawaka of 56th Divison and
ACBC officials were present.
