SLRCS helps drought affected

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) with the support of the
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC)
continued its support for the drought affected by distributing cash
grants totalling Rs 2 million among 200 families in the Puttalam
district as support towards livelihood resumption.

The SLRCS handed over Rs 10,000 each to 200 families affected by the
recent severe drought at a ceremony over the weekend in Puttalam.
Addressing the gathering, the SLRCS President said the Red Cross is
an organization that is committed to responding to the most vulnerable
when they are in trouble.
“We have been assisting the people affected by various disasters for
over seven decades and we continue to do this until the end of time.
People who could be our father, mother, sister, brother, son or daughter
needs help and we are dedicated to serving them,” he added.
The funds awarded are part of the drought programme of the SLRCS that
has provided funds for people affected in various parts of the island.
The Puttalam district was one such district that saw people being
severely affected due to the drought, SLRCS said.

Ranaweera and Branch Executive Officer W. P. Mahendra participated in
the occasion.
