Steps have been taken to remove the Divisional Secretaries found to
be engaged in professional misconduct from the Divisional Administrative
Service following disciplinary inquiries and other investigations into
the public complaints which have been received against certain
Divisional Secretaries, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister
W.D.J.Senevirathne said.
“The professional misconduct of a few divisional secretaries are
adding a black mark to the whole public service.
Hence, removing such persons from the administrative service is
essential to an provide an efficient and public friendly administrative
service,” he explained.
Addressing the District Secretaries Summit at the Sri Lanka Institute
of Development Administration (SLIDA), the minister said divisional
secretaries should be the pilots of divisional development and they have
a huge responsibility to serve the public in a friendly manner.
Public servants should have the ability to wipe out the tears of the
public through dedicated service. “We are always receiving complaints
against government servants about bribe taking, mistreatment of the
public and abuse of power. This is not suitable conduct for any person
who has dedicated his service to the public.
We have received over 200 public complaints during the last year
against the above offences.” |
