Lankan students for Summit at Chicago University

This year Sri Lankan student leaders have been invited to a new summit on Business and Entrepreneurship, at the University of Chicago, USA, which is ranked fifth by the Ivy League University.

The summit will help delegates aged 16 to 19 years from 30 countries to develop a working business plan and network with future business leaders from around the world. They will also experience American University life by staying in this prestigious campus for the 10 day summit.

The Summit highlights are, a visit to the headquarters of a Fortune 500 company to learn the inside workings of America's largest companies, learn about sustainable business practices at places such as the Merchandise Mart, earn 10 service learning hours and 55 credit hours, plus three optional college credits, learn how to develop a business plan during an interactive workshop, meet an experienced entrepreneur and gain insights about investment and start-up capital.

Teambuilding challenges will also be initiated where assessment of leadership styles while working within the team will also be conducted during leadership meetings.

Successful entrepreneurs will be heard from to attend a resume'-building workshop.

Developing important communication skills and other activities that are designed towards laying a strong foundation for a successful future in business and grow to become leaders will be main points in this summit.

“This is ideal for those young men and women aged 16 to 19 who have dreams of starting their own business or those planning to join their parent's companies,” Rochelle Melder, Chief Student Counsellor for Presidential Classroom, Sri Lanka said.

The summit will have 300 delegates from 25 countries and Sri Lanka will send 10 delegates to this once in a life time opportunity.

Since the year 2000 over 700 Sri Lankan teenagers have experienced this amazing week in the USA which has changed their lives forever. 590 of them entered foreign Universities. These include Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Upen, Washington, Mt. Holliork, Notradam, Macalister, Clark, Wisconsin in USA, Sydney, Melbourne and East Sydney in Australia and Oxford, Nottingham, Warrick, Leeds, Sheffield, Kings, LSE and Sussex in United Kingdom. During this 10 day summit starting on 31st July, delegates will immerse in the excitement of Chicago's Financial District, one of the largest in the world and visit the Federal Reserve Bank and Money Museum, discover the city of Chicago through a guided tour featuring Millennium Park, the John Hancock Observatory, and the Chicago Cultural Center, visit the first exchange in the United States at the Chicago Board of Trade Visitor Gallery and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange Visitor Center, outline the organizational structure of your company in the management section of your business plan, discuss current global economic events during your leadership meeting, learn how to stand out in a résumé building workshop and gain interviewing and networking strategies during student leadership meetings.

Interactions with a panel of college students who will share their insights into college living and business and entrepreneurship studies will be conducted. A business leadership-themed movie will be analyzed and business case studies that are exhibited in the business will be discussed.

Past and present entrepreneurs will be considered as well as inventions at the impressive Museum of Science and Industry. Delegates will get the privilege to travel to Wrigley Field, which is the second oldest ballpark in the majors, to watch a Chicago Cubs game and see teamwork and communication in action.

There are many points to be followed on the agenda where, on the last evening in Chicago, the participants will get to enjoy at the historic Navy Pier, on Chicago's lakefront. This is a once in a lifetime learning experience that very few Education Institutes will offer in the world today.
