Market up

Gains on Nestle, Carson Cumberbatch and Bukit Darah helped to offset the negative effects of profit taking on banking and Financials in yesterday’s trading. Banking & financials dominated turnover whilst retail activity was seen on planation and few other mid-capped shares such as Access Engineering.

ASI gained 0.68 points (0.01%) to close at 5,851.35 and the S&P SL20 index dipped 3.01 points (0.09%) to close at 3,268.24. Turnover was Rs. 938.3Mn.

Top contributors to turnover were Hatton National Bank 226.0Mn, Textured Jersey with Rs. 175.8Mn and Commercial Bank with Rs. 117.4Mn. Most active counters for the day were Textured Jersey, Sampath Bank and Commercial Bank.

Notable gainers for the day were CT Holdings up by 7.3% to close at Rs. 143.90, Bukit Darah up by 6.3% to close at Rs. 748.00 and Swarnamahal Financial Services up by 5.7% to close at Rs. 3.70. Notable losers were Softlogic Finance down by 6.5% to close at Rs. 26.00, Watawala Plantations down by 3.9% to close at Rs. 12.20 and Citrus Leisure down by 3.8% to close at Rs. 23.00.
