Sri Lanka is one of the best business places in the region for product innovation and research and development to change the world of business, Managing Director and CEO of Ansell Lanka Magnus Nicolin said.

“ We have been in Sri Lanka for more than 23 years, and it is one of the best places of operations of Ansell, which has been able to record a growth in the business, Nicolin said at a media conference to announce new opening of their fourth research and development centre in the Biyagama Export Zone.He said they have a long track record of manufacturing high quality industrial and medical products in Sri Lanka and new product development will now complement manufacturing and expand their presence in the region, which spends an investment of US $ 2 million.

The investment in additional Research and Development resources and the decision to create and co-locate its Research and development centers with the Ansell manufacturing structure and underline the company’s commitment to accelerate innovation and to faster serve emerging unmet needs of customers worldwide, Magnus said.

Further with over more than two decades in Sri Lanka and over 2,000 employees, Ansell has been key players in Sri Lanka’s export market and have exhibited that Sri Lanka is one of the best place for innovation and the research and development, he said.

BOI Director Geneneral Dr Lakshman Jayaweera said that Research and Development is an essential component in any enterprise’s production process and can influence decision to invest in Sri Lanka. He said that investments that develop innovation sector such as Ansell’s new R and D facility are also in line with the strategic plan of the government to transform Sri Lanka into a “Knowledge Hub.”

Export Development Board Director General Sujatha Weerakoon said that Ansell is one of the top rubber based surgical glove exporters in Sri Lanka and its Research and Development is a key product innovation and would directly help to increases local exports.
