COPE report for 2012 in March

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will present its final
report for 2012 on its probe into accounts of public enterprises coming
under COPE’s scrutiny to Parliament by early March, Human Resources
Senior Minister and COPE chairman D E W Gunasekara said.

He said the probe into accounts of 200 public enterprises out of 235
has been completed. Gunasekara said the probe was slightly interrupted
when the impeachment of the former Chief Justice intervened. He said the
committee would complete the probe as soon as possible.
Gunasekara said the final report with the recommendations for each
institution would be presented for the approval of the committee members
beforehand, and adjustments would be made if there are any.
The senior minister said the report would be presented to Parliament
soon thereafter. He also noted the progress made by each institution on
the recommendations given in the previous COPE report is also included
in the latest report.
The COPE comprises 31 members, including the chairman, 15 members
from the government and 15 members from the opposition and acts as an
independent body. |
