Isipatana- a fresher laden team

Isipatana College Colombo, with a fresher laden team are striving to
give out their best this season. The lads from Havelock Town will have
the services of only five senior players this year.

Led by that talented batsman Deshan Jayakumar who scored a century in
last year's big match. They will also have seasoned campaigners Malin
Dias, Matheesha Ranaweera, Chenutha Wickramasinghe and Salinda Ushan.
Isipatana who have been playing cricket for over 50 years have
produced a few national players among them are Jayantha Paranathala,
Uvais Karnain and test players Asoka de Silva who had the honour of
serving in the elite ICC umpire panel after his retirement . Nuwan Soyza
who took a hat-trick against Zimbabwe in a test match in Zimbabwe in
1999, Suresh Perera and the youngest test player produced by Sri Lanka
Sanjeewa Weerasinghe who played for the country at the age of 17 years
and was a few months younger than the other 17 year old Roshan
Jurangpathy of Royal, both of whom played against India in the 1985 test
series in Sri Lanka.
The lads from Havelock Town have also produced several players who
have excelled in club cricket Mervyn Peiris, A.U.Seneviratne,
K.L.S.K.Sirisena, K.H.Nandasena, Lanka Perera, Harsha Deepal,
K.G.Priyantha.In recent years Isipatana produced a superb bowler in
Anushka Samaratunga who broke Nimesh Perera's School's bowling record by
capturing over 140 wickets.

Big match centurian Deshan Jayakumar has been entrusted with the task
of leading Isipatana this year.
Second year player Malin Dias will be his deputy. Deshan scored over
500 runs last year with the top score of 124 runs against Thurstan
College in their annual bigmatch.
Matheesha Ranaweera who scored 450 runs last year top score of 120
against Zahira College is another keybatsman in the side.
Chenutha Wickramasinghe who made 250 runs last year inclusive of
three fifties.
Salinda Ushan who made 275 runs last year 96 against D.S.Senanayake
and Kalum Bastiansz are the others who are capable of making useful
contributions with the bat. Paceman Malin Dias who captured 30 wickets
last year will open the bowling attack with either Kalum Bastiansz,
Chenutha Wickramasinghe or Dushan Perera.
The spin attack will comprise Chameera Dissanayake, Yomesh Umayanga,
Kaminda Dananjaya, Dilan Punchihewa and Sudhara Dakshina.
The coach of the team Bradman Ediriweera mentioned that he is quite
satisfied with the team's performances, but lacking of ground facilities
has become a major drawback to improve their performances.However,he is
confident that his lads would make this a memorable season.
