Java Lane SC beat Nandimithra SC 2-1 in final

Java Lane SC beat much fancied Nandimithra SC, by two goals to one in
the Premier League division I football final worked off at the City
Football Complex, Colombo yesterday. Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL)
conducted the tournament.
Java Lane, who experienced mixed fortunes during the league stage
displayed constant progress in the latter part of the tournament. Even
though Nandimithra SC, who was unbeaten throughout the tournament till
final seemed to be aggressive in the beginning Java Lane players managed
to keep the strong opponents under control in the final.
Java Lane openned the account in the ninth minute when Mohamed Zarwan
booted a forceful kick that touched the net after struck on a shoulder
of a Nandimithra player. Nandimithra players had some good scoring
chances but they missed most of them due to poor teamwork. Java Lane
were leading 1-0 at the lemons.
In the second half, Java Lane added their second goal off a penalty
in the 59th minute as Zarwan made no mistake in netting the ball again.
Nandimithra players tried hard to make inroads to the game, but they
could not penatrate the strong Java Lane defense. Their first and only
goal came in the 79th minute off Nuwan Priyankara.
FFSL ExCo member and Colombo Municipal Council Playgrounds and
Recreation Director M M Ramees was the chief guest at the award ceremony
and gave away the trophies and cash awards. |
