Swimming pool opening

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will open a swimming pool built at a cost
of Rs 12 million at St. Mary’s College, Matugama today at 10.00 a.m.
Transport Minister Kumara Welgama funded from his decentralized budget
for this. The old Boy’s Association of the school also helped raise
funds for the project.
The president will hand over school equipment to 20,000 children
under the Diri Uda programme launched by Minister Welgama.
The president will also hand over three buses to St. Mary’s College,
C.W.W. Kannangara National school and Ananda Sastralaya National school
in Matugama.
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardene and Western Province Chief
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga will also participate.
American Magician in Colombo
Fred Rasmussen, a magician from San Jose, USA will arrive in Colombo
on January 28 on cruise ship Nautica. He is the past President of the
San Jose IBM Ring 216. He will visit the Sri Lanka Magic Circle (SLMC)
in Mount Lavinia.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Past Student’s Association of
Pinnawala Central College, Rambukkana will be held on January 27 at
9.30am at the college main hall.
Office - bearers will also be appointed for 2013. New members will be
enrolled to the society prior to the commencement of the meeting.
Haemodialysis Centre opening
The Rotary Club of Colombo West will open a Haemodialysis Centre at
Padaviya Base Hospital on Saturday at 10.30am.
The Rotary Humanitarian and Service Organisation collected funds and
purchased six haemodialysis machines, a blood gas analyser, three
suction machines and medical accessories valued at Rs 25 million.
Asia Pacific Civil Engineers Regional Conference
The Asia Pacific Regional Conference of Civil Engineers 2013 (ICE-APRC)
will be held at the Mt Lavinia Hotel today. The theme of the Conference
is “Natural Disasters :The Engineer’s Role in Preparedness, Mitigation
and Recovery.”
The choice of the theme demonstrates a shift in the Engineer’s role in
disaster risk reduction, - from ‘Response’ to ‘Resilience.’
Milk for NWP students

The North Western Provincial Animal Production and Health Department
will provide liquid milk for school children.
Initially, the programme will be implemented in schools close to milk
collecting centres.
