Two new wards for Embilipitiya Base Hospital
Two new wards built at Rs 2.5 million at the Embilipitiya Base
Hospital were opened by Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister and Health Minister
Maheepala Herath recently. The new two wards have a bed strength of 60.
Chief Minister Herath said he first visited the Embilipitiya Hospital
on November 12 last year after assuming duties as the Provincial Health
Minister in addition to his normal duties.
He was appalled by the poor condition of the hospital. In certain
wards, two or three patients had to share a single bed.
The two new wards would help ease congestion in other wards. He was
happy to see the two new wards completed in double quick time. He said
the proposed new four storeyed building costing Rs 55 million would be
completed soon.
Consultant surgeon Dr Gamini Ratnasiri also spoke.
Embilipitiya UC chairman Ven Weweldeniye Gnanaprabha Thera,
Provincial Council member Jayatissa Ranaweera, Medical Superintendent Dr
Anoj Rodrigo and other officials were also present. |
