Mystery of unidentified body unravelled

A body was exhumed from a coconut estate in Ethiliyagoda in the Wellawa Police area was identified as that of Nilatha Perera, 48, a resident of Maweedalupotha, Yanthampalawa.

Four suspects have been taken into custody by Wellawa Police in this connection. According to the confession made by suspects, two brothers who are the owners of the estate committed the crime and the body was buried by the watcher of the estate with the help of several workers.

According to Police, a money transaction led to the murder. Police recovered bullets of T.56 weapon, bullets of a pistol, and a large quantity of raw material used to make explosives, hidden at a place about a kilometre away from the place where the murder committed.

Judicial Medical Officer, Kurunegala, S M H M K Senanayake conducted the autopsy on Tuesday. He reported that the victim had been clubbed death.

Kurunegala Additional Magistrate P M K Bandara remanded the suspects.
