Cabinet nod for another 400 Mahindodaya Technical Labs

Cabinet approval has been granted to establish another 400 Mahindodaya
Technical Laboratories in secondary schools, Education Minister Bandula
Gunawardena said yesterday.
Four hundred and nine Mahindodaya Technical Laboratories have been set
up islandwide to provide equal educational opportunities for children in
urban areas and villages by enhancing facilities in government schools,
he said.
The minister was addressing a workshop on ‘Teaching and Learning through
the eyes of Japanese volunteers at the BMICH yesterday. The Education
Ministry implemented a programme to set up 1,000 secondary schools
countrywide parallel to the Mahinda Chinthana National Programme which
aims to remove the popular schools concept and provide schools with
facilities. The schools are equipped with a science laboratory,
mathematics laboratory, language laboratory, distance education unit and
an information and communication laboratory, Minister Gunawardena said.
