Extremists attempting to sow discord – Keheliya

Extremist elements are attempting to cause friction between ethnic and religious groups living in harmony. The government will not allow these elements to succeed in their attempts, Mass Media and Information Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said. Minister Rambukwella was addressing the Cabinet press briefing at the ministry yesterday.
The minister said complaints have been received from political leaders representing different religious and ethnic groups about these organised attempts.

“However, the government is yet to receive evidence that it could take legal action against such attempts. Through such attempts, these organised elements are trying to cause difficulties to the government,” Rambukwella said. “We have a very bad experience of ethnic conflict and all Sri Lankans had to suffer. We now have a peaceful country. Some groups posing as Buddhist and Sinhala organisations are trying to destroy the prevailing peace in the country,” the minister said.
He requested the public not to be misled by such anarchic elements.
