Select Committee to look into religious extremists
Sandasen Marasinghe and Irangika Range
Leader of the House and Irrigation and Water Resources Management
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday stated that a Parliamentary
Select Committee will be set up to find out if there are movements of
religious extremists in the country.
He made this observation yesterday in Parliament in response to a
special statement made my DNA party leader in Parliament Anura Kumara
Dissanayake stating if the government is aware of a tendency to create
religious extremist groups in Sri Lanka. He also questioned as to what
measures the government has taken to bring under control such a
tendency. DNA MP Dissanayake further stated that Sri Lanka has bitter
experience of a 30 years war. He added that the country does not need to
experience another such dark era. He added out of these issue crated for
political gains only the common people suffer in this country.
Dissanayake stated the Sinhala, Tamil, Malay and Muslim people should
live harmoniously in this country. He also added that the government has
to consider the threat on the peaceful existence of the country by this
tendency and take preventive measures.
He also stated that out of such an issue created by these extremists
only the foreign inimical forces would benefit.
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that the government would take
measures to set up a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to find out
such an issue. He added all the parties will have their representation
in the committee. He added that the government would not allow to
reverse the hard-earned peace any way.
