Lake House journalist wins award
Veteran writer and journalist, Central Province Lake House
correspondent, Palitha Alakeshwara of Dumbaratenna, Kundasale (Kandy)
won a provincial level prize at the 2012 Environmental Photographic
Competition organised by the Central Environmental Authority to mark the
World Environmental Day.
The theme of the competition was Aesthetic Environment . It was held
at Royal College hall, Colombo. Alakeshwara won awards for two
photographs presented at this competition.
Being a student at Galahitiyawa Central College in Ganemulla,
Alakeshwara took to journalism and in 1957, he won the first place at
the Christmas short story competition held by the Kumara Mandapaya
Childrens' Page of the Janata evening daily Lake House newspaper. In
1960s, he supplied caricatures to Lake House daily Janata.
Adding to his proficiency, he supplied short stories to newspapers
and tabloids such as Janata , Yovun Janata and Nava Yugaya magazines.
He also supplied pocket cartoons to the Rasavahini , Sinhala literary
magazine. He is a member of the Sri Lanka National Photographic Society.
Later, he joined the state-run Heywood Rajaye Kalayathanaya and pursued
a training course in photography. He is also a Diploma Holder in
Journalism.
Alakeshwara submitted photographs to the Sunday Observer and Daily
News for features such as Lassana Sri Lanka. |
