Two mothers die after child birth

Two mothers following child births at Galle Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and Balapitiya District Hospital died reportedly owing to the complexities of child births, hospital sources said.

The mother, M.W. Anuruddhika, 32, of Barawagoda, Balapitiya was first admitted to Balapitiya hospital and transferred to Mahamodara where she gave a still birth on January 16, following which she was transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for intensive treatment and died on January 22. Similarly Wijayamuni Samanthi, 34, of Brahmanawatte, Balapitiya who was admitted to Balapitiya Hospital for a child birth died together with a newly born baby. Inquirers into Sudden Deaths of both Galle and Balapitiya, B.G.N/Karunathilake and S.Senadeera who held separate post-mortems returned open verdicts and released the bodies for the funerals after sending the parts of the bodies to the Government Analysis Department for further investigations.
