Lanka Ice Company to open factory in Dickowita

Lanka Ice Company is planning to open an ice manufacturing plant in
the newly opened Dickowita fisheries harbour before the end of this year
at a cost of Rs 50 million. The plants’ ice production is destined for
the local fisheries industry.
Lanka Ice Company last month opened another ice manufacturing plant
in the Gurunagar area in Jaffna at a cost of Rs 50 million and the
current production capacity of the plant is 600 ice blocks per day.
The project has already provided direct employment for 35 initially.
The company has already embarked on another project to set up an ice
manufacturing plant in Valaichchenai area by investing a substantial
amount of money and the construction work of the plant is currently
taking place. We are hopeful that the demand for commercial ice from the
fisheries sector in the northern area is growing with the advent of
peace, Lanka Ice Company, Engineer Athula De Alwis told Daily News
