“We are pleased to partner the SLCSMI as the sponsor for the 2013
Industrial Excellence Awards, which provides yet another opportunity for
SMEs to demonstrate their business success and further empower them to
grow their business to new heights,” Chief Executive Officer UBC, Anil
Amarasuriya said at the media conference held at the Union Bank head
office yesterday. He said as the Bank is a choice of small and medium
enterprises, this partnership further demonstrates and exemplifies their
continued and growing commitment to support the local SME sector.
Amarasuriya said that as a Bank of choice for SME, this partnership
further demonstrates and exemplifies to strengthen the local SME sector,
which is the backbone of the Sri Lanka economy. The CEO further said the
Bank has understood the current importance of the SME sector which looks
at the companies cash flow than the collaterals when loans are obtained
from the SME sector. He also said that they would provide low interest
loans for business organizations, which consistently maintains the low
non performing loan ratio in the market.
President of the SLCSMI, Aloy Jayawardena said during the last 50
years they have seen the Small Industries Association growing from
strength to strength, which provides a huge service to the sector. “We
are no longer an Association, but recognized as Chamber supported and
driven by a number of Nation’s reputed industries. The Association has
over 300 members and this award ceremony has several categories in the
SME sector. An invitation has also being extended by the Chamber to
Small and Medium Industries in the Maldives and Nepal, which was done on
a suggestion made by the Daily News Business last year," he said.
