Royal College, Colombo humbled St Anthony’s College, Kandy by an
innings and one run in their inter-school cricket match concluded at
Katugastota yesterday. It was a rare loss for the Antonians before the
luncheon break on their home grounds.
The Antonians continuing from their overnight score of 34 for 4
needing a further 80 runs to avoid an innings defeat once again put up a
poor batting display on a treacherous wicket helping the bowlers.
The Antonians continuing from their overnight score of 34 for 4 lost
the valuable wicket of Nimesha Gunasinghe who was bowled through the
gates by spinner Poorna Aluthge for 17 facing 64 balls and hitting three
fours.
Skipper Sachin Bulathsinhala soon followed suit stumped by Milan
Abeysekera off Chamika Karunaratne for 3 runs facing 22 balls.
This virtually signalled the end though Dilan Bandara 30 (75 balls 4
fours) and Pavithra Nanayakkara 27 (115 balls 5 fours) put up a heroic
stand of 55 to delay the inevitable and the Antonians were all out just
three balls before the lunch interval.
Right arm off spinner Poorna Aluthge in a devastating spell took 5
for 29 to return the outstanding match figures of 9 for 36 which had the

bowled will to capture 3 for 27.
