Ananda take major honours

Maliyadeva College Kurunegala, after being asked to follow on fought back gallantly to force a draw in their under 19 inter school cricket match against Ananda College which concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

The Devans were bundled out for a paltry 93 runs, with the pace duo of Isuru Gunasekara ( 4 for 36) and Venuka Ashan ( 3 for 27) ripping through their batting line up ably supported by spinner Dushmantha Dissanayake ( 3 for 21). After being asked to follow on the visitors put up a courageous batting display Minod Ranasinghe (45), Keshan Wijesinghe (54) ans Tharindu Dissanayake (44) which helped them to stave off defeat.

Ananda 322 all out in 92.1 overs (Tamalaka Athulathmudali 98, Pasindu Isira 75, Thushara Samarakoon 30, Thaveen Dananjaya 43, Rasanjana Jayaratne 3/93, Theneth Manishka 2/06, Chandima Wijayabandara 3/118)

Thurstan excel

Fine knocks by skipper Ramindu Kumarasinghe (71) and Thimira Jayasinghe (53) helped Thurstan College to claim a first innings win over St.Benedict’s College in their inter school under 19 match played at Thurstan Grounds yesterday. Thurstan were 249 in 89.5 overs in their first innings. St.Benedict’s College resuming their overnight score of 10 for no wicket scored 205 in 81.3 overs. Madura Madushan (48) and Thilina Dilshan (23) were the main contributors for the side while Charana Nananyakkara ( 3 for 17), Rajitha Perera (3 for 59) and Ramindu Kumarasinghe ( 3 for 49) contained the Benedictine batting lineup.

Thurstan 249 all out in 89.5 overs (Minhaj Jaleel 26, Tharindu Silva 22, Ramindu Kumarasinghe 71, Thimira Jayasinghe 53, Rajitha Perera 19 n.o; Yohan Soyza 3/94, Geethika Jayatilleke 4/74, Dilan Angelo 2/50) and 46 for 3 in 19 overs ( Kavindu Kulasekara 27 n.o.)
