Shaun Marsh returns to T20 cauldron
Elmo Rodrigopulle Reporting from Australia
Left hander Shan Marsh returns to big time cricket for Australia
after being named in the Twenty20 squad for the two games against Si
Lanka at the Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday and MCG on Monday. Marsh,
son of former Aussie opening batsman and Sri Lankan coach Geoff Marsh
who was controversially moved out, scored a stylish debut century 141
against Sri Lanka in Pallekele.
Marsh was dropped after failing to continue his form last summer. In
addition. Marsh was penalized for having a late night booze in a
Champions League match in South Africa in 2010 and was sent back to play
grade cricket.
West Australian coach and former opening batsman Justin Langer who
rates Marsh highly says that if he does what he is doing andconcentrate
on things he can control and his behaviour on and off the field, he
should go a long way.
Delighted with his selection, Marsh 29 said that he hoped the two
games would be the start of a long stint in the side. He says going into
these two games gives him a lot of confidence. He has played seven
Tests, 3 one-day internationals and eight Twenty20 games, the last
appearance coming in February 2012. Being out of the scene for long
should give him the impetus to perform.
Big Bash Stars
Also included in the new-look Aussie Twenty20 squad are Big Bash
League stars, Aaron Finch, James Faulkner, Ben Laughlin, and Ben
Cutting. Finch and Cutting played against Sri Lanka in the 50 over games
without success. But surprisingly left out is former West Australian
player Luke Pomersbach who batted with great success in the BBL smashing
397 runs at an average of 44.11. He certainly must be disappointed.
According to chairman of selectors John Inverarity, the Twenyty20 squad
was picked with the hope that domestic momentum would carry over on to
the international stage.
